CELEBRATING A CENTURY OF FORESTRY IN SCOTLAND

CELEBRATING A CENTURY OF FORESTRY IN SCOTLAND

The 1919 Forestry Act began one of the most significant periods of change in British forestry and land use. The Forestry Commission was born, and initiated the huge undertaking to restore Britain’s forest and timber resources.

LOOKING BACK THROUGH THE YEARS

Over the years, the Act and the agencies and organisations it brought into being have shaped the way forestry in Scotland has been managed and grown. Throughout the year, we will celebrate the history, the people, the machines and the key moments that have shaped the past century of Scottish forestry.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME

This is also the year when the Forestry and Land Management (Scotland) Act 2018 came into force, with full responsibility for forestry matters being devolved to Scottish ministers, and further changes and opportunities for forestry in Scotland.

Forestry and Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry, along with the Scottish Government and key industry partners, will tell the story of the past, present and future of Scotland’s Trees, Woods and Forests and their contribution to our people, economy and environment.

JOIN THE CELEBRATIONS IN 2019

Our year-long celebrations will include events, opportunities, and some very special content celebrating the legacy of the 1919 Forestry Act, and the history of Scotland’s forestry sector. With archive photos, exclusive interviews and much, much more to share, we hope you’ll join us in commemorating a century of Scottish forestry, and looking forward to the next one hundred years.
